Move To: Balmain Published September 17, 2016 Smooth Moves Smoothmoves Content Team SHARE If you’re moving to Balmain, we hope you like good food, good beer and wine, good views and the odd game of barefoot bowls. Originally home to the Gadigal and Wangal people, this worker’s bastion has seen the rise and fall of industry, eventually giving way to suburbia. Today, this land of pubs and cultural hubs has all the offerings of a sophisticated and refined centre steeped in heritage and situated just minutes from Sydney’s CBD. Turkish Breakfast If you’re after a great breakfast that will fill you up for the rest of the day, look no further than Efendy, on the corner of Darling and Elliot Streets. These guys and girls have established themselves as the go-to restaurant for Turkish breakfast in Sydney. On offer is a sample menu that’ll leave your belly bulging and your appetite appeased: baked breads and pastries, string haloumi and sheep cheese feta, cold breakfast mezes, spicy sausages, menemen eggs and an array of seasonal fruits. If that’s not enough, wash it all down with Turkish coffee or apple tea. Unbeatable. Wetting Your Whistle If there’s an Australian suburb known for its pubs – Balmain is it. Walking through Balmain is akin to taking a stroll through the streets of London; in five minutes you’ll pass five pubs. Not surprisingly, one of the best places to stop and grab a bite or a pint is the aptly named, Balmain Hotel. Other great watering holes include the East Village Hotel, The Bald Rock Hotel and Dick’s Hotel. Of course, these are just the tip of the on-tap beer, Balmain is literally full of quaint, authentic public houses for you and your friends to side step into, have a meal or drink or a game of pool. Getting Around To put it in a nutshell, Balmain is connected. Just a stone’s throw from the CBD, a short ferry ride will bring you into the vibrant maritime hub of Circular Quay. Buses connect Balmain to all things Inner West and further afield. Basically, if this is your new suburb, rest assured – you’re not going to have trouble getting places because you’re right in the thick of it. Smooth Moves Smoothmoves Content Team SHARE
